Bentley's Buds Great Dane Rescue(BBGDR) is a non-profit Great Dane Rescue. We are a NO KILL shelter dedicated to saving and perfectly placing relinquished dogs in suitable, loving, FOREVER homes. All of our danes have been through a behavioral evaluation, are vaccinated, medically treated, and are spayed/neutered to help control the overpopulation of animals as well as preventing behavioral problems and health issues.

Our Rescue has been years in the making when the loss of a beloved pet, Bentley, sent things rapidly forward. Bentley passed away in November of 2007 and I found myself searching for a purpose. Not long after, a deaf puppy about to be euthanized fell into my lap. Everything became clear and BBGDR was formed. I had done private rescue in my home for 13 years. I would take in Great Danes with severe behavior problems and help them turn their lives around. I made an impact on a lot of danes who would have otherwise been euthanized. I wanted to help more. In 2001 I moved to WY where I learned the hardship of Animal Control. I became allies with one of the pounds and began saving death row dogs. It became my passion, such a great feeling to know that an animal was going to get a second chance at the life it deserves! I stayed in Wyoming for 3 months and placed over 71 dogs, from adorable parvo puppies to seniors and everything in between. Eventually my pocket went dry from vet bills and I returned to ND. I began taking in animals from all over who were about to walk across rainbow bridge a bit too soon. Word got out about what I was doing in my small home town and my yard became the animal ditching grounds (sadly), I worked very hard to place each and everyone in happy forever homes. I was trying to save the world one animal at a time however, I was working full time in the medical field and desperately wanting to leave it. My chance came and I now enjoy my days with dogs at side and a rescue that is truely making a difference. With hope in our hearts we plan on saving as many as we safely can.
Sometimes people think I'm crazy, my life has been dedicated completely to speaking up for animals to give them a better chance at a life that they deserve. Ever had a bad day and come home to those beautiful eyes sitting waiting patiently to take all your problems away and shower you with affection. I would give anything to be able to return that affection to the animals out there that didn't get that start at life. Abused, neglected, mistreated just waiting for thier special angel on earth to sweep them away from the pain and suffering. I try my best to be worthy in those eyes and make that tucked tail wag. I hope you will as well!
"Saving one dog won't change the world, but it will change the world for that one dog."
The welfare and safety of the dogs is our main concern. Our goal is to place neglected and/or unwanted Great Danes into life-long, loving, permanent homes, and to further education about care, training, and responsible pet ownership for the breed. We vow to resolve physical and behavioral problems through training, proper care, and socialization. We work to place rescue danes in homes with people who provide secure loving and healthy homes.
It is our responsibility to do all that we can for every Dane that comes into our care. We do not end at our ties when the dog is placed we have a lifelong commitment to the animals that we adopt out.
BBGDR is located in North Dakota. We cover ND, SD, MN, and MT. We DO NOT have a physical location, as all of our dogs are fostered in individual homes.
We focus on adopting our dogs in ND, MN, and SD to carefully screened adopters willing to provide perfect forever homes. However we will adopt to states outside of our service area if all requirements are met.
We ARE a no kill rescue. This does not mean that we will adopt out a dog that is a potential danger to society.
It is estimated that in the United States alone, at least six million cats and dogs are euthanized every year because homes cannot be found for them. A no kill shelter pledges to find homes for all of the animals it accepts, and will not subject animals to euthanasia unless it is absolutely necessary. People can surrender healthy pets to a no kill shelter in confidence that homes will be found for those animals.
NO KILL is defined by practices whereby no animal is ever killed for any reason other than to alleviate the animal’s suffering or because the animal is so vicious as to be uncontrollable; animals are not killed because there isn’t enough space at the shelter, because the animal is sick, handicapped, or unattractive. We love each and every animal that comes into BBGDR and will do everything possible to find them a forever home that is safe for them and society.
All animals that are not suffering or a danger to society will have a happy place to live the rest of their lives with us.
